Economic Structure of Spain within the framework of the European Union

The course aims to study the current situation of the Spanish economy within a context of the European Union and more specifically in the Euro Zone. This subject was shared during the current academic year with Professor Antonio Rueda Guglieri, who was the coordinator of the subject. I took care of the practical part of that matter. My part is based on the study of Spain's economic situation in a crisis context analyzed through four key aspects: the pension system, the labor market and the unemployment situation, the housing market and the Spanish tourism sector. This subject was teached in the second course of Economics at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

In the subject in question, aspects to be taken into account such as the coordination between the practical and theoretical aspects of the subject are developed. If we focus on the content, we emphasize that in order to synthesize and specify in the precise subject that concerns us, other important aspects of the teaching guide are ignored.

Theoretical classes are complemented by other activities, some of them through the Moodle virtual platform. However, face-to-face attendance is an important part of teaching, as stated in the teaching guide, where the need to attend at least 80% of both the classes and other complementary activities is made explicit. Attendance at this 80% is mandatory, since it is, conditio sen equea non to do average and be able to pass the subject.

Introduction to Econometrics

This subject was teached by Xose Picatoste at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia at the associate department in Pontevedra, Galicia. This subjet is teached in the first course of Economics degree. Introduction to Econometrics deals with econometrics, which depends fundamentally on the availability of data and on the quality and accuracy of data.

Although there are several definitions of the term econometrics, all mention in one way or another as an objective of the discipline, the joint use of statistics, mathematics and economic theory in order to provide the latter with empirical content, or in other words, with the objective of quantifying the relationships postulated by economic theory.

The most important tool in econometrics is regression analysis, this instrument can be considered as the
Real meter to measure in our discipline.
Economic theory generally does not postulate more than qualitative relationships between economic variables, one of the main tasks of this discipline, the quantification of these relationships. Other objectives would be the testing of hypotheses and the elaboration of forecasts, although the list is not exhaustive.

Competencies and expected results

At the end of the subject the student must:

  1. Know and be able to apply the basic tools of a quantitative nature for diagnosis and business analysis
  2. Ability to quantify behavioral relationships between variables
  3. Ability to complement econometrics knowledge with non-compliance situations specific hypothesis of the regression model
  4. Know the most usual techniques for building models
  5. Ability to extend the regression model to panel data models, discrete choice and dependent variable limited

Economic-Accounting Principles of the company

At the moment, me, Xose Picatoste, I'm teaching this subject during the academic course 2019-2020 at the Universidade da Coruña, Galicia. at the faculty of Law. This subject is teached in the first course of Law degree.

The main objective of the subject is to understand some basic principles of economics. This is taught through microeconomics principles on my part.

On the other hand, the teacher Emilio Nogueira Moure also taught in the same subject teaching macroeconomic principles.

Competencies and expected results

This course is aimed at students in the first year of the Degree in Law. It is considered a basic subject because it studies fundamental concepts of economics.

This is very useful, not only for law students, as such, but also as citizens who consume, invest, receive public subsidies, etc
In this subject, the basic concepts, instruments, and criteria necessary to get a general knowledge of the most relevant economic issues are explained.

Its development is designed for students who are beginning in the study of law, to achieve a global view of them and the different issues and problems that it comprises.

Knowledge of the economic principles as a multidisciplinary discipline and as such we do not intend to study the subject in all its extensions and depth is proposed.
Finally, the subject offers the student a panoramic vision of economics, as befits the idea of a program at the level of a subject integrated into a degree of Law.

Principles of Microeconomics

Competencies and expected results

To pass the subject, the student must has a vision of the functioning of the markets within the framework of the Economic Theory.

Likewise, the economic methodology, basically microeconomic, will be explained. The analysis is carried out using simple mathematical models and graphic support.
